I'm starting college in the fall to be a pre-school or kindergarten teacher. Just wondering from you fellow teachers of young ones - what are the pros and cons of your job? Please let me know what level you teach and how long you have been teaching... thanks!

  1. Well im not a teacher but i do have family members who teach younger kids (ex- 1,2,4) and they love the  children but than can have behavorial problems at times but besides that it is great! I wouldnt call it easy but i know its rewarding!

  2. thou i am not a teacher i am a teacher cadet at a local elem. school and i have done so for two years now i have worked with every grade from 1st to 5th grade. what i have learned from this experienced is that it takes alot of patience to work with 20 4-5 years old all day. i thought about working with the k students but it is very chaotic. thou i also learned there are HUGE differences from grade level to grade level the higher you get the less the difference is.but the most rewarding part of working with children is when they "get it" like if you are working with a child on something they are struggling with and then they finally get it is the most amazing feeling in the world.

  3. hi!  I taught preschool for 15 years, and am going back to school to teach k5.  I found the difference is that preschool there is more care-maintenance type things like toilet training, socialization, gross motor etc.  Pay is not good unless you are in the shool system for K-4, day cares have higher ratios and less support, thery are usuallt for profit. K5 teachers have a bit older children, and the work load is less in terms of physical care of the children.  Don't get me wrong, I loved preschool, but I feel that Public or Private schools offer more support, retirement, etc.    Also Kindergarten teachers are more highly  regarded by the education community than preschool teachers, I have found.

Good luck no matter what you choose!  Children are our future.
