  1. The only power plant you want near you is Renewable Energy type of one.  Just talk to any one who lives near a coal power plant and they are every where.  It cost $500 million to make a coal power plant.  It cost $4 million to make 1.5 Mw windmill.

500/4=125 wind mills for the same price, that requires only wind.

  2. its relatively free of classical poisonous or otherwise harmful pollutants.  Its primary by product is carbon dioxide which only recently has been deemed "harmful" in the Global Warming debate.  Its pretty abundant, and it doesn't have a lot of other uses other than fuel at the moment.

  3. Dry natural gas (methane) burns completely to carbon dioxide and water, and creates almost zero pollution emissions.  By comparison, coal, wood, gasoline, etc. create lots of pollution emissions that are a lot of work to clean up.

Natural gas is abundant.  The only drawback is that it does have the convenience or energy density of gasoline.  (It is a lot of work to liquify, and the liquid occupies more volume than an equivalent amount of gasoline would.)

  4. It's cleaner and cheaper
