Question:

What are the pros on not lifting a full size chevy 4x4 and just putting 33" tires on it to be an old beater?

I've got an old chevy...debating whether to just put 33's on it, get new shocks, and run the c**p out of it in the woods and stuff...what would be the advantage besides not changing my driveline angles to put more stress on them?

  1. do it right body lift and suspension lift if you don't go over a 3 inch body and a 3 inch sus u should be ok

  2. The full size chevy should be able to fit 33s without no lift at all. Ive seen many that has fit 33s on them with no scrubbing at all. If this does not work a lift will be needed to be use. A suspeison or body lift will work fine. Unless you are lifting it over 3 inches changing parts on the drive line should not be necessary with just putting 33s on your truck.

  3. I personally prefer to keep my truck as low as possible and still get over the obstacles when I normally run.  I have a Jeep Cherokee running 35" tires with only a 3" lift.  It is nice and stable and goes most every where I want to go.

There will be a slight difference in big rocks with 35"s vs 33"s.  However the extra flex of being able to stuff the 33"s may get you over the rough spots.

I would work on flex rather than lift to start with.  I saw a guy on 31" spank a rock garden at Harlan because he had a huge amount of wheel travel and locker on both ends.

Having stock driveline angles will make everything much more reliable.  Be sure your new shocks do not limit the axle droop.

  4. If you are looking for just a beater, just leave the 33's on the truck.

The 35's are not going to give you that much more clearance, but that will be your choice.

The others are correct if you stay with 3" lift then you should not have to change your angles or have major problems.

Just remember that the bigger you go, the more stress on your drive line.

No matter what you do the ride will still be rough.
