for me learning Chinese or Japanese is a great privilege because these two languages came from two powerful countries because China and Japan are two of some of the  countries worldwide with the greatest GNP and economy.

another fact is that, particularly in Japan, only few of the Japanese are able to speak in English, most of them are educated and literate, because during their childhood and high school days, English is not ought to be instructed rather they are focused on Nihongo or Japanese.

So if you want to easily interact with either Japanese or Chinese.......you must first study their language!

You know what? Your question made me think. The way the economy is going, it's probably a good idea to learn Chinese and/or Japanese, the same way it is financially savvy for businesspeople in China and Japan to learn English.

One of the main attractions for me to Chinese & Japanese, and Asian languages in general is that not many Chinese/Japanese people speak English.

European languages might be easier for an English speaker, but most of them speak English anyway, so what's the point?
