I have a commerical license with single/mulit rating instrument, CFI and CFII. I have 400 hours total. How many hours do you need to be a first officer co-pilot for UPS, United Parcel Service? How many Multi, PIC. Just for first officer not captain.

Thanks

  1. UPS wants many thousands of hours of turbine PIC operated under part 121.  They also have one of the more stringent hiring programs you are likely to find.  In order to be competitive, I would estimate you'd need something like 7,000 total time with at least 2000 PIC turbine under Part 121.

Just like most airlines (UPS is a Part 121 Scheduled Carrier just like America, United or Delta) you will start out as a First Officer and when your seniority number comes up you may upgrade to Captain.

  2. UPS has a fleet of over 235 aircraft including A300, B727, B747, B757, B767, DC8 and MD11. Retiring the B747 classics in 2008.

United Parcel Service is not currently hiring pilots. Plans for 2008 undetermined as there is no pilot retirements for 2008.

    Minimums Requirements

    • 1500 Total Time

    • 1000 PIC on jet and/or ME turboprop

    • Current ATP or ATPw

    • Current FE or FEw

    • Bachelor’s degree is preferred

    Hotline:

  3. Call UPS and ask for a job description....I'm sure that they well help. My even be on the net...check jobs...UPS web site.

  4. If you are talking about flying for the "big" UPS, not a feeder carrier, you have a long way to go.  UPS and FedEx are probably the most sought-after pilot jobs out there.

Those aren't entry level jobs.  People leave other airlines to fly with UPS.  From what I can find, they require 1,000 hours of PIC jet or multiengine turboprop time and a 4 year degree is preferred.  I would guess that to be competitive, you would probably need at least 4,000 hours total and 3,000 hours of jet time, 2,000 hours of which are PIC, plus a four year college degree.  This is a job that everybody wants, so there's no shortcuts.

EDIT:  Yes, the times listed below are the MINIMUMS for applying, but it's a pipe dream to think that you'll even get an interview if you're just meeting the minimums.  It doesn't hurt to try, but the published application minimums and the competitive interview minimums are usually worlds apart at this level.
