  1. You generally need a doctoral degree to become a zoologist. You should major in zoology or biology as an undergraduate. In graduate school, you may want to specialize in genetics, embryology, or another area in animal science. Graduates with a bachelor's degree can get some jobs, such as advanced biological technician, but their opportunities for advancement are limited. People who have earned a master's degree in zoology or a related field are qualified for some jobs as teachers or research assistants. You usually need a doctoral degree, however, to get a job teaching and doing research at a university or working as an administrator. It usually takes four years to earn a bachelor's degree and another one or two years to earn a master's degree. You need to go to school for an additional two or three years to receive a doctoral degree. In order to keep up with new developments in animal science, you should continue to study throughout your career.

As to the second part of your question:

There are very few institutions in Canada that offer B.Sc. degrees in zoology specifically; more often, students pursue a major in biology with a concentration in zoology courses. A broad grounding in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics is part of most programs. Within zoology, students may take courses in various subjects including comparative anatomy, cell structure, genetics, ecology, evolution, paleontology, physiology and animal behaviour. There is often a field component to research, particularly in upper level courses, though students also gain experience with using new technologies and approaches such as remote sensing, bioinformatics, and digital image analysis. Some institutions offer the opportunity to pursue a more environmentally oriented degree, combining zoology courses with others in botany, environmental science, or wildlife management. Cooperative degrees, combining academic study with paid work terms, are also offered by some universities.

University of Toronto and Guelph (in Ontario) are some of the best places in the world to study Zoology.

Unlike person above me I do not believe, I know.

The University of Toronto would be the best if all you care about is gaining knowledge of zoology, but if cost is also a big thing for you I'd suggest Guelph as it is still a WONDERFUL university with less people and cost is less. The lodging of both are great and both get great reviews.
