  1. In Ketchikan- besides visiting the Salmon Mall for great deals on souvenirs, you can take a whale sight seeing excursion. However make sure it is a guranteed one so if you do not see awhale you get most of your money back.

Juneau- Alaska T-Shirt is your best place for souvenirs. There is a park just outside of town which is a great place to see whales & other wildlife.

Skagway- like Juneau offers a train excursion. Also you can rent scooters & tour more for less.

Althou the helicopters & seaplane tour are a great site seeing they are very expensive and only last for about 20 minutes at over $275.00 each thats alot.

Also not all cruise lines offer this but, out of Ketchikan you can go on a crab boat like the Deadilest Catch. It goes to Angel Island & naturally the water is much calmer.

You also do not have to book your excursions now or on the ship as there are stands at each port.

This is an AMAZING cruise & you will see wildlife from the ship, see beautiful scenery & meet people from all over the world.

  2. In Skagway, you should do the combo tour of the White Pass and Yukon Railway and the Liarsville Gold Mining Camp.

The railroad is a narrow guage line that was built for the 1890's and early 1900's gold rush. You take the train up to the top of the mountains into Fraser, Canada. From there you take a bus back down, stopping for photos at the Welcome to Alaska, USA sign. At Liarsville, you get a chance to pan for gold and see a cute show.

In Juneau, a good tour is to the salmon hatchery and then on to Hubbard Glacier. There are also some flightsee tours available where you can see a lot more or even land on and walk on a glacier.

In Ketchikan, the Lumberjack show is cute. I'd pass on the Indian village with the Totem Poles. That was kind of boring. There are other more active tours available here too. Check with your cruise line when you board, or even before on their website.

  3. Alaska! We're going on a cruise there next month! We're scuba diving in Ketchikan and there's supposed to be a must see train ride in one of the other towns. You can take a helicopter ride too. Hope you have fun!! =)
