I am going for Labor day weekend with a tour, but we will have time to wander around ourselves. Any tips on great/fun places to see? My sister and I are in our twenties and like shopping as well as sightseeing.

Thanks

  1. Since you come with the tour, I will recommend mostly likely not include in the tour.

    Day:

    1. If your tour doesn't include shopping in Nolita area, you should check it out.  This is next to SOHO area.

    2. If your tour include Nolita, you should go to East Village.  This has many boutque store for younger people.

    Night:

    1. Meet Packing: This is very touristy now but it still has a wow factor.

    2. East Village: This is a major place for all young people and NYU students to hang out.

    3. Lower East Side: This is a cool place for real New Yorker and not so many tourist.

    Hope this is helpful.

  2. Hi, I have been there three times and love it, on a bus tour with my girlfriend and I as tour guides.(She was not well, and needed my help these times).    We visited  Ground Zero, Grand Central Station, Times Square is unbelieveable at night with the lights on,,wow.  Saw the Cowboy on the street, and there is also a Cowgirl.  Went to Macy's, huge, huge.  Went to the skating rink, and also Central Park, etc. etc.     Just heard about this recently  =  there  is a telescope from   ??  to New York, and you can see all the way through it.   It is far, far away.   I have notes but not right at my fingertips right now.   Oh!,, you have to go on the on-off bus,, you pay 30.00 or so, and you can get on and off this open - two storey bus,, whenever you want to, it goes everywhere, so I don't think you would miss anything.  Then there is the little church that when the buildings went down (Ground Zero) the debris went everywhere - it did not take out one window pane, or crack it or anything, because of one tree.. Euchaluptis  Tree is now gone, except the stump which they saved,,, as everything hit into it, but the church is unbelieveable, and there are a lot of people's things inside of loved ones, from this Ground Zero disaster..   Church was saved because of one tree, over 100 years old.  Then the cross is there, that is interesting, outside near the street on the side.  There is sooo much more to see there, don't forget there are a lot of music places and then there is a huge place underground, where you can have a drink, and look at a space four wheeler hung up on the cave walls,,,,and play games.  You guys would love this place.  etc. etc. etc... and then the Hard Rock Cafe,, it is awesome. On the way in there are five or six tv screens that you can see Hard Rock Cafe's from everywhere,, and see people move at them and walk around, etc...    New York - it is a great, great place!!!   (don't forget the waterfront)..
