  1. It is a wager in golf.  Unlike what you see on TV where someone has given a big pool of money to be split up skins involves a wager on each hole.  Let's say there are 3 of us playing and we play $1 skins - each player is wagering a dollar per hole.  The single lowest score on a hole wins from the other two players.  So if you make par and the other two make bogey they each pay you a dollar.  Two tie you all tie, and that hole's dollar is carried over to the next hole.

Another way to play is let's say you have 12 players.  Everyone puts into the pot the same amount - say $10 so altogether there is $120 in the pool.  At the end of the round you mark all the scores by hole on a score sheet and then compare by hole.  Again two tie you all tie, so if on the third hole you make birdie and no one else ties or beats you then that is a skin.  Maybe there are 4 skins on the board, divide that into the $120 pool and each skin is worth $30.  You could tie 17 of the holes and if you win one hole and it is the only skin you would win the entire pot of $120.

Third version is "Skins with Validation".  Here the game is the same - but in order for your skin to count you must make par or better on the following hole to "validate" the skin.  If you bogey the hole after your skin - then it doesn't count and the money carries over to the next skin.  This is more difficult of course, but cuts down on the number of skins, thus making the remaining skins worth more.

    Aren't you glad you asked?

  2. Golf.

Hole by hole competition.      Player that wins the hole by outperforming the golfers who are with him or her wins the money.

    Good luck to ya.

  3. Skins are competitions up to 4 players per group and whoever wins each hole gets money and a skin.

  4. skins?    fore

  5. I hit the skins for the h**l of it.

Just for the yell I get.

Mmm mmm mmm, for the smell of it.

  6. "Skins" is a matchplay format in golf.  Each hole is worth a certain amount of money.  Whoever wins that hole, wins the "skins" (i.e. the money allotted to that hole).

That means there are 18 skins.  In case of a tie at a hole, the money from that tied hole is carried over & added to the pot ("skins") on next hole; thus increasing the "skins" amount for the next whole!

  7. skins...well you take two men teams and you play till some one loses and the first one naked down to there skin..now go buy some geico.

  8. Skins games are usually a format where there is prize-money assigned to each hole - normally this increases every 3 holes.

There are normally 4-player televised skins games. The person with the lowest score on each hole wins the "skin". If there is a tie on any given hole, then the money gets added to the prize-money of the next hole and all players get to have a go.

Fun to watch as there isn't much pressure (unless your the person who hasn't won a skin).
