  1. I know agriculture plays a huge part

  2. I'm a little out of touch with Brazil, I'll give it a shot.

I think your question is "Why is Brazil economically growing?"

I was in Brazil when I was in the US Navy in 1988.  We spent a week in Rio and a few guys on board had been there just two years before.  The currency in 1986 was the cruziero.  Just two years later it was the cruzado, which equalled 10,000 cruzieros.  The reason for this swift devaluation of the currency was the enormous amount of international debt that Brazil had as a country at that time.  If I'm not mistaken, most countries that had loaned Brazil money (that they could not have repayed) have since pardoned those debts or let Brazil default on those loans.  So my first reason would be stabilizing the Brazilian currency.

Another reason does have to do with agriculture but comes at a severe price.  Brazil has been, in the past, rapidly deforesting the Amazon to turn the nutrient rich soil into farmland.  Although, they will boost their own economy, the environmental factors have yet to be seen globally.  I think this has tamed somewhat over the past few years.

Another reason is that there are a lot more Brazilians coming to the US and "setting up shop," so to speak.  Brazil has a large import/export industry that is based predominantly around Miami, so that is another avenue for economic expansion.  The gemstome trade for emeralds, aquamarine, onyx and other semi-precious stones is what put Brazil on the map in the Portugueses' eyes in the first place.

Another is just an industrialization of the country in general that would have followed with the stabilization of the currency.

I hope this is a start, but your best bet is to do some researchon your own.  The world is a much different place since 1988!  My information is probably outdated, somewhat.

  3. Sounds like homework to me... study.  What information did your teacher give you?  Look there.
