I'm using the right blank DVD platform since my DVD multi-recorder can record DVD+R. I got the files from torrent but I usually get a burn process error after. Why? and also how would I know if the blank DVD is no longer usable after it has been tried for writing DVD-video since my burning attempt is unsuccessful?

  1. Typically, the error is caused by your dvd burner and not your Nero software.  Try downloading the latest drivers for the dvd burner you have installed in your computer.  You should be able to find the make and model of your dvd/cd burner in your device manager.  Go to the maker's website and download the latest drivers for your model.  This should resolve your  error.

  2. If your attempt failed after it started burning the Disc, then yes, that disc is unusable.

That burn process error... the specific error can lead to the solution, but it is possible that...

    1.  The drive needs to be replaced.

    2.  The drive needs to be cleaned.

    3.  You have a spyware/virus infection that is interfering with normal computer operations.

    4.  You have bad RAM.

    5.  If it is a desktop, and you have liquid electrolyte capacitors, one or more could be blown (puffed out), causing issues with voltage regulation... and things like burning discs.

    6.  Something I didn't think of right now, or that I overlooked.

Waste another DVD, and try again.  Edit your question and include the exact error that you are getting.  Try burning a CD, and see if you get the same error.

  3. What file format are you trying to burn?

Have you ever burned before and it worked?  Or is this your first attempt?

  4. If at least one track was burned it's not usable again (which is why I use DVD-RW disks).  As far as the reason:

A dirty lens on the drive?  A defective drive?  A defective driver?  A virus you got from a torrent download?  (That's about all torrents are good for these days - infecting your computer.)  It's like asking "why won't my car start" with no other information.  There are too many possibilities to have any decent chance of guessing correctly.

  5. Usually after you try to burn and it fails the DVD is useless- there should be a place in Nero to look at what's on the dvd-- if you go into Tools there should be a check disc for info or something to that effect.

Or if you are lucky put the disc in and then go into My documents and click on the drive that it loaded in. Example D: sometimes it will show up-- but not always.

If the material you are trying has a protection on it you won't be able to copy. When I burn I usually try it on a DVD RW first. That way if there is an error you can erase what is loaded on the disc. I started to have way too many ruined discs
