  1. Nagarjuna sagar lake & dam (410' high) forming it, on River Krishna are built by Andhra Pradesh government. The place is far from cities like Hyderabad (150 km), Guntur (80km) & Vijayawada (100km) and offers relaxation and recreational activity on the lake shore. The massive dam is the 8th largest at 56.3 million cubic meters and with the Hydroelectric power station is itself worth a visit.

The 100 mile long lake submerged a big area on banks of the river (the village of Nandi konda) which was the archeological site of an ancient university of Acharya (Professor) Nagarjuna (150 -250 AD) under the patronage of close friend, king Gautamiputra Satakarni of 'Satavahana' Empire . Author of 'Prajnaparamita sutra' of his own Madhyamika school of Mahayana(Buddhist) philosophy, the Acharya preached and practiced also Alchemy, Medicine and whose teachings went to China via Tibet, where he is considered next to Buddha.

I visited the area now submerged, and skirted around the hill on top of which are placed in a museum all relics and excavated artifacts. The hill now became an island in the lake's midst. Even the boat ride to the place is enjoyable.
