I'm trying to figure out what the reference points are for lane position 1-4 and I haven't been able to figure it out. I also need to know how far away from the curb/center line the car is from each lane position.

  1. CONTACT YOUR LOCAL DMV OFFICE, THEY WILL BE ABLE TO ANSWER ANY AND ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS AND AT THE SAME TIME YOU WILL BE GETTING THE CORRECT ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION.

  2. Lanes are generally 8 feet wide, if that's what you're asking.

  3. A standard traffic lane is 11 or 12 feet wide.

Some states have full 12 foot shoulders.  Others have 8 foot shoulder or a partial shoulder which is 4 foot paved width and the rest grass or gravel.

As for reference points, there is not a set beginning other than what is specified in engineering documents.
