  1. Schools or institutions that offer speech courses specialization can give you what educational background you must possess in order to qualify as speech therapist. These institutions have curriculum and / or can  guide you on how to obtain the degree or qualifications should you lack credits for these requirements.

  2. Generally after getting your bachelors degree it is a 2 year full time graduate program to finish all your course work then at least 1 year of supervised hours/ internship to finish your certification requirements.

  3. a speech language pathologist must have a master's degree from a university with an accredited graduate level speech-language pathology program.  depending on the university you attend, you can have either a masters of science or arts.

during the graduate program, one completes academic coursework, as well as completes both a school internship and a hospital externship (clinical practicum).  the length of graduate programs vary depending on the school, and the type of bachelors degree you come in with.  typically, it takes 15 months to two years to graduate with a masters in slp.

most all SLPs have a license and their Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC's).  in order to get these, you have to take the Praxis exam, and complete a clinical fellowship year under the mentorship of a person holding ASHA certification (American Speech and Hearing Assoc.).   also, if you plan on working in the public schools, you need to obtain your credential (Clinical Rehabilitative Services Credential).  this involves taking an additional class or two during your graduate work.
