  1. First, you need to get a bachelors degree from a 4 year university.

For most medical schools, you will need at least one year of each of the following courses:

    General Biology

    General Chemistry with Laboratory

    Physics

    Organic Chemistry with Laboratory

    English

    Calculus

Then you will have to take a standardized exam called the MCAT, which will test your knowledge of the the above courses.

In order to be considered a competitive candidate for medical school, you will need to have a GPA of at least 3.5 and an MCAT score of at least 30, but the higher the better.  There are no guarantees when it comes to medical school and admission is based on other aspects in addition to your test scores and grades.

You need to realize that you will be spending the next 11-13 years in school and training.  In addition, you will accumulate ~$200,000-300,000 in loans to pay for your education unless you are independently wealthy. You will get paid during your residency training, but it is ~$40,000-50,000 per year while working up to 80 hours per week.

If you still want to go to medical school because you believe it is your calling, then I wish you the best of luck.

    Hope this helps.

  2. It really depends on what college you decide to go to! You will have to go to med school because it is so competitive these days. Whichever school  you decide to go to should have the required classes you need, and it is always helpful to talk to an advisor!

  3. med schools-well they dont have a certain criteria in which students to take-its all subjective-they look at gpa, major, mcat scores, extracurriculars, classes you take (science gpa and overall gpa), essay, interview, personality, etc.

a good mcat score is anything above a 30 ..and on a scale of a 4.0 gpa ideal gpa is anything over 3.5 but tehre are some people i know who had a 4.0 gpa and 40s on mcat but they didnt get into med school and some who had a 3.2 gpa, 32 on mcat who got in.

I would suggest you major in whatever you want like if you like music major in music. If you like history major in that. But do take the required science courses and do well in them.

But hey is Biology is your passion major in Biology. You want to be able to stand out to the medical board.

So this is what I would suggest:

    1) Major in something that interests you and that you can talk about with excitement.

    2) Do well in your science classes- physics, bio, organic chem, general chem.

    3) Volunteer in a hospital/Research in hospital. Volunteer in the community (eg Habitat for Humanity), Social work at your religious organization, teach young children (tutor), etc.

    4) Join a sports club or a sports team (as long as it does not distract you from your classes), join different clubs at your school

    5) Be aware of current events. Watch CNBC (Fast Money and Mad Money, Kudlows Company-that will teach you about the economy and whats going on with it.Suze Orman show teaches you about personal finances-you will learn about loans and debt)

    6) Try to aim for a Teacher's Assistant position

    7) Do wel on your Mcats.

#5-this will come in handy during your interview to med school.

    Good Luck.

  4. Well, first, you have to go to college and get an undergraduate degree.  It doesn't matter what you major in (med school students have bachelor's degrees in everything from biochemistry to art history), but there are certain courses that you need to take during college.  They may or may not be a part of the classes that you need for your major.  So for now, just get good grades and stuff like that; college is what really determines what med school you can go to.
