I live in the state of Arizona and have always been very interested in Early Childhood Education. I was wondering exactly what the requirments are to becoming a Teacher in this field? How many credits you need, what type of degree, and if you need any other certificates....?

  1. I helped out in early child at my school for OCI(On Campus Instructor). I had a blast doing that as well. I really enjoyed it. Well I think in order to become a Early childhood you must attend a Four year college and get your bachelors(I think) I can't remember. Sorry. Then you must want to love children and to teach them. I wish there was more but that's all I remember

  2. your Ba or Masters, patience, experience ( volunteer work or subbing as an aide) CPR /first aide. I'm not sure about AZ but in WI this is a must. If I were you I would go and ask an early childhood teacher in your school district and see what they recomend

  3. I don't know specifically about AZ, but in most places you just get a BA or a BS in Early Childhood Education, and after graduating, you apply for jobs.  In my experience, though, you'll increase your chances of getting *some* job if you're certified in Early Childhood AND Elementary Education (through 6th or 8th grade).

    Good Luck!

  4. Bachelor of Education (Teaching) Early Childhood [BEd(Tchg)EC]

The BEd(Tchg)EC is offered as a centre-based or campus-based programme. The centre-based option allows you to continue working in an early childhood centre.

If you already have a Kindergarten or Early Childhood Diploma of Teaching,Authority equivalent, this degree is an ideal upgrade qualification. Your diploma can count for up to two years of the degree, and the increased use of online delivery makes upgrading whilst teaching much more feasible.

    Requirements and further information

A BA/BTeach (ECE) requires four years of full-time study and 520 points are required. At least 364 points must be above 100 level, with at least 142 of these at 300 level.

A BEd(Tchg)EC requires three years of full-time or up to six years of part-time study. 360 points are required. At least 222 points must be above 100 level, with at least 90 at 300 level.

Admission to all teacher education programmes involves meeting set academic criteria; having supportive referees; making declarations about any criminal convictions or health and disability issues; and successfully taking part in an assessment exercise.

Graduates of both these degree programmes can continue their studies with Victoria’s Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma in Education and Professional Development or Master of Education programmes. Both qualifications lead to careers in a range of early childhood roles including teaching in kindergartens, early childhood centres, and language nests. As salaries for early childhood teachers move to parallel those of primary teachers, it is expected that graduates of both programmes will access those higher salaries.
