I'm currently a 2nd year undergrad students in Canada but I want to attend an Ivy League Grad school. I have done my research and realize that the program I want to get into are all pretty good in the Ivy League schools. My cumulative gpa however is sadly right at 3.0. What are some things I can do to increase my chances of getting into grad school besides study well on gmat/gre. I have 2 part time jobs but I have no other activities? Any ideas?

  1. You will need a 4.0 through the rest of college and a super high GRE to have any chance. After that do research in your field and all activities centering on it at the highest possible level.

  2. If you want to attend an MBA program, you will need 2-5 years of work experience prior to applying, as only about 1-2% of students are directly out of UG (and those are top students).  A 3.0 GPA will probably be a problem for you, esp at Ivy League schools, as there are so many other students applying for the good departments.  Really depends on your intended major.  For some academic departments, you need evidence of research work or even teaching.  Sorry to deliver bad news, but you should lower your sights.  There are many other good grad school programs in the US other than Ivy League.
