I'm traveling abroad and a good friend of mine asked me to take his American son with me and visit his grandparents. What kind of docs/authorizations do I need to bring along with me?

  1. You also need a letter of permission to take the child out of the country and to that particular location...and to leave him specifically with the grandparents ( and name them).  The letter must be signed by both parents and notarized.  It would be a good idea for them to write a letter for you to carry  to give the the grandparents giving them permission to care for the child for such and such period of time.  Be sure details are spelled out about the return of the child too.  This is really a great responsibility...so be sure to protect yourself.  Some countries require this letter, others do not...but for your own protection, you should definetly have it.

  2. I travel a lot, am from Africa. He need a American passport if he is American citizen, but if he is not he need a passport from his original country. If he is not a citizen of that country he need a visa you have to contact the Embassy here  in  USA , for that country where you are going, to get a visa.
