I would like to know what is the general requirement if you plan to open a travel agency in the Philippines. Information on capitalization, equipment, personnel, and other details would be greatly appreciated. I would like to open a small scale office that offers domestic as well as international tickets and hotel reservations.

Thanks! God bless!

  1. Your idea is great but why would you start a business that you do not know anything about? This is not only an unwise move but also an impulsive one. You should have gotten an idea on the research method and feasibility studies that you did when you were in college provided that you took business or accounting courses. I also hope that you are based in the Philippines and currently living there now because it will really prove difficult for you to pitch in that much money if you really don't know anything about the place and the actual business.. You would need to have contacts and agreements with carriers..

I suggest applying and working first for a travel agency for at least 1 year to know how things work.. All your questions will be answered.. If not, then try to do a feasibility study on it... From there, you will find out how much office space you need, where to build it, how many staff you need, and how much business you expect..

I suggest at least having a capital of 2M pesos or $45K to be safe.. You can start with 1M pesos but its always good to have enough money first..

    Goodluck..

  2.    I studied the travel agency business for six months before I

decided to pursue a different line of business.

You need a million pesos in cash to start a small travel agency.

Minimum staff is 4 people including you.  One will act as a

liason person ( handles all external transactions ).  Other

will be in the office.  You definitely need a broadband internet

connection.  You need a PLDT landline and a fax machine.

Maybe one or two more phone lines for incoming and outgoing

calls.  You would also need at least 2 computers and one printer.

You need an office space - 30 square meter is a good start but

there should be room for expansion.

Having a car is good but using a taxi is another option.

       Have a nice day !

  3. secure all the necessary permits first- permit to operate, municipal permit?, permit from the DTI,register with SEC, for the name.
