  1. The answer about it varies is true. Each state and district have different rules. some you need to have some training some not and it depends on the child or children you may be working with.

for more info on all us ed go to www.ed.gov the us dept of fed with links to special at, and all things education related for the entire usa.

each state dept of or education is on that site. go to each state dept or board of education and find the rules there or email them and ask.

  2. In New York, a paraprofessional must have 60 credits/ two years of college, I believe.

  3. It depends on what state you live in.  Many districts within a state also have their own qualifications as well.  Title 1 districts (high priority) require a highly qualified paraprofessional.  This would require a degree in something education related or taking and passing an exam.

  4. There are a couple different ways to be "No child Left Behind Qualified" to be an aide in a special education class.

An AA degree is one option.

or having a number of college units in education... I believe it is around 18 units but I am unsure of the exact number

    OR

You can take a test that basically ensures that you have about 8th grade level skills in reading a math. This test is typically administered by the school district and given as frequently as needed to fill positions.

  5. In California, teacher's aides in a special education classes have to take a knowledge test and have the equivalent of an AA degree.

  6. In my state you just need to have a high school diploma.  I would suggest a few education classes, though, and perhaps first aid.
