I would really love to join a swat team after my career in the Army.

what are the requirements? Would I have a better chance since I was in the army?

  1. There are no SWAT teams in the army.Only special forces teams that cover both covert ops and maybe rescue ops.SWATs are completely focused on rescue ops.

I`m not American but worked in joint with a US army ranger unit when I was serving my mandatory service and found out this guy who told me he failed twice to apply for SWAT.He had plenty of experience with his own expertise within his own area. That means army experience is a MUST,not just a bonus.

I`d say it`s rather better to enlist for the Green Berets instead. They don`t require any particular experience.

  2. Police Departments won't hire anyone and put them on a SWAT or any specialized team without them first having experience as a police officer.

Most departments require anywhere from 3 to 5 years patrol experience prior to allowing officers to apply for specialized positions.

Your military career will be a plus in getting hired for the police department, but what will matter when you apply for a position with a SWAT team or similar will be your record with the police department.
