  1. Very rarely are 17 year olds without high school dipolomas and required college classes allowed to work.  I would imagine most of them are assistants who help close classrooms at the end of the day.  Closing classrooms usually involves vacuuming, sanitizing, etc.  It would not provide the opportunity for direct child care as a full-time duty.

Try here to see if the rules for your state are listed.

  2. It depends on where you live and the center that you would be working for. There are different requirements and some centers are not insured for younger workers.

  3. It is a state by state issue.  Where do you live?

I do not think there are any special requirements in Ohio other than normal child labor laws and a criminal background check.  We had high school students come in and work with children all the time.

  4. It depends on which state you live in. If you live in California you have to be at least 18 years old to work with children and have some college units in Early Childhood Education. You have to be first aid, CPR certified and it has to be updated every year or two depending on where you work. If you apply at a Child Care Center talk to the director and ask her/him what you need to work there they can also help you if they want you to work for them.

  5. You'll need NVQ2 (or equivalent) or being willing to train (you may not get paid for this).

    Experience in childcare.

    Patience and love of children

Ability to work in team and be individual

Basic knowledge on childcare issues/education etc

You'll need to be willing to train in first aid, child protection etc.
