  1. Palin knows what the basic job is....presiding over the Senate. But what does that mean? The VP gets to say things like "Chair recognizes senior senator from Delaware" or "Chair will entertain a motion to adjourn" and cast a vote in case of a tie. Whoppee!

Gee, I have run a meeting according to Roberts Rules. Maybe I should run for VP??

  2. Whatever the president says.

  3. Okay, fine she said that a few months back.

For those who haven't READ the US Constitution:

The formal powers and role of the vice president are limited by the Constitution to becoming President in the event of the death or resignation of the President and acting as the presiding officer of the U.S. Senate. As President of the Senate, the Vice President has two primary duties: to cast a vote in the event of a Senate deadlock and to preside over and certify the official vote count of the U.S. Electoral College.

Otherwise they serve as an advisor to the President.

  4. to make sure the president keeps his a*s clean

  5. They step in if the president dies or has to call in sick.

Given the number of nuts that want to kill Obama and McCain's health, I wouldn't be suprised if their Vice Presidents ran things for most of the term, no matter who got in.

  6. Everyone's asking that or quoting it, but why is no one including an explanation on what exactly does a VP do? I think most people overestimate the VP's job.  They are supposed to be nothing more than a backup. They aren't even supposed to be a second-hand person to the President though that's what the fantastic two-party system has turned them into.

Hasn't anyone ever been promoted or pulled to a new job because your manager thinks you'll be great for it but you weren't expecting it and don't know much about it yet?  Once you get there you work hard to fit in to your new responsibilities and exceed expectations.

It's really not a big deal at this point (when that statement was made).

  7. The only roles set out for the Vice President in the Constitution are President of the Senate (which gives the VP the casting vote in any tied vote) and to step in to the Office of The President if the President is unable to carry out his functions (most recently when Reagan had a number of cancer operations, Bush Snr became President).

Everything else has grown over the years, and is at the discretion of the President to request his (or her one day!) VP to do whatever they feel will benefit the Adminsitration.

  8. After you find out, let Sarah Palin know

    No to McShame/Failin

  10. Shooting people on hunting trips and falling asleep during session.

  11. I'm going to take a punt at advising the president and looking good for supporters.

  12. Wait for the president to die, and president of the senate. You cast the breaking vote in case of a tie.
