to say hello to the customer and ask, may i take ur order. and then they tell u. and then u should have a thing with the prices on them and tell them how much it is. and at the end of their dinner they leave a chech and maybe a tip

The server is responsible for your dining experience.  S/he has to make sure that you have plenty of your beverage; be available when needed by the table; process your payment in a timely manner; and be polite and make sure that you have an overall good dining experience.

When it comes to the food taking too long, you have to understand it's a kitchen problem most of the time...not a server problem.  If the food comes out wrong, however, that may be the server's fault (incorrectly inputing food order).

wait tables tip the bus boy, be courteous and watch the table you are waiting but don't bug them every 2 minutes asking if everything is alright,
