What are the restrictions for getting your FFL? How do you start the process?

I'm turning 21 soon, and I want to get started on my FFL as soon as possible. I have many rifles in my name to show that i am indeed a collector, I don't know if this is really an issue though. Anyhow the only thing I have on my record is a dismissed speeding ticket of 12 mph when i was 17.

Thanks in advance.

  1. Okay you want an FFL type 3 if you want to collect antique firearms. You cannot deal these firearms this FFL allows you to get guns (antique) shipped to your house, basically you circumvent the process of going into a gun shop and doing a background check and then paying for your gun. Pretty much if you can pass a background check when you buy a gun at a gun shop you can get one of these.

FFL type 1 IS NOT FOR COLLECTING if you use it for collecting its a CRIME. This is the basic FFL for owning a business that sells gun to the public. This type of FFL is harder to get, you need to prove you have a business and you need to be operating out of a zoned commercial location and jump through a few more hoops. No reason to have this unless you actually have a business.
