What are the restrictions on having a pet cow

i live in escambia county and i own about an acre of land that is fensed in and i heard that if i own a cow or any live stock that i wont have to pay property taxes, but im not sure if i can have one in a residential neighborhood.

  1. Call the Escambia County zoning office.

    If it happens to be OK, be sure to really research which breed will do best in your hot, humid climate-- not all breeds will (I know there are only a couple of breeds of beef cattle in Florida that are specially bred to withstand the climate). If you don't know what it takes to responsibly care for such an animal, do it a favor and get goats instead.

    I would also double check on the tax thing with the county, too. Here in CA, only the feed is non-taxable for food animals (not for horses, though).
