  1. Syracuse isn't rich but has nice areas:

-The East Side is the Nicest.  Dewitt, Fayettville, and Manlius are the Nicer Areas and have good public schools (Jamesville Dewitt, Fayettville Manlius).  There is also a very good Private Catholic School, Christian Brothers Academy.

Rochester is a little bit Nicer:

-Again, the East Side is a little more Affluent.  Pittsford and Fairport are great areas with great schools.  Victor is a little further outside the city but is very nice also.

I don't know as much detail about Buffalo, but there are very nice areas there.

The big Upstate Cities I would avoid:

    Binghamton

    Albany

    Oswego

    Watertown

    (Just my opinion)

  2. I don't know what county you are thinking of but there are many nice school and areas in Onondaga County. some of them include Baldwinsville Skaneatlas(very very nice but very exspensive) Fayetteville- Manlius.

You can also go to greatschools.com and find good schools

PS .... stay out of Syracuse inner city schools.
