What are the right conditions for African Spur Tortises to mate?

I have two tortises, one female, one male and they are old enough and ready to have babies, but there are certain conditions like weather, places, and i've heard its really imoportant to have a lump of sand (like the beach in away) if thats true, what type of sand?

They need to be at least 8 years old and very large. You don&#039;t need to worry about sand. They can lay them in soil in your backyard. They&#039;ll dig a hole.
