Just recently I was at walmart with a person who was caught stealing at another walmart. The manager that had stopped him for stealing weeks before saw us at another walmart and followed us while telling his girlfriend who he was and why he was following us. I was there with my 2 boys while this off the clock manager stared and gossiped over us. It was a completely embarassing situation. Then once we were done shopping he came to us at check out(not being employed at this store, wearing civilian clothing, and off the clock, not to mention with his girlfriend and amongst tons of people) he ask the person I was with for his ID. Now why would he need to see that. I asked him if he had any right with him being off the clock. He said that he could kick us out of the store if he wanted to if we didnt cooporate. He said that I was being mouthy and will be followed through walmart as well.

  1. are you sure he wasn't loss prevention? the loss prevention guy is a salaried member of management and bounces from store to store.  Managers are never off the clock because they are salaried.

    but corporate office is     1 - 800  - WALMART

    ... call it.

  2. He was within his rights to follow you and to let you know he was following you and why.  He probably had no right to ask for ID and he couldn't kick you out of the store, although one of the managers of that store probably could have.  It's a bad idea to hang with thieves and to allow them around your children.  If it takes shaming you in public to make you realize that, then this guy did you a favor.

  3. Stop "shopping" at WalMart, you shabby hobo.  If you're going to steal, STEAL FROM BETTER STORES.

  4. I think a better question is...why do you hang around with a known thief and criminal?  You're embarassed about being gossipped over, I'd be far more embarassed about having my children around someone who felt it was ok to swipe and steal, what lesson are you teaching your kids???  That stealing is ok and d**n those wal-mart people for getting so pissy about it?   Ditch the loser and you won't have to worry about off the clock managers following you around..seriously.

P.S.  What he did was almost certainly harassment, but can you blame Wal-Mart for protecting themselves against someone they know is going to steal from them?

  5. Call a different walmart and ask for a regional managers phone number.  You must tell a higher ranking person.  Threaten to seek legal consultation unless this employee is terminated.  He has no right and I hope you didn't give him the ID.  Nevertheless, its not slander because of it being true of your friend stealing.  He also has no right of harrassing you.  If he follows you through walmart tell his superior, but I don't think it is harrassment since you are on their property.  If he followed you anywhere else off the property, I would call the police immediately.
