  1. why?  Does your newborn have teeth?

  2. My daughters teeth have ever broken the skin on my breast. Shes had them for about 2.5 months. When a new one first breaks the surface it rubs on the breast & is a little sharp but not painful. She has bitten me three times. She bites a little, I flick her on the chin, she gives me a dirty look, bits harder & I flick her again then we go thru the cycle one more time. She cries, I comfort her & there has been no more biting. I swear she always is testing my boundaries.

  3. no...the only issue I have with nursing my 10 month old with teeth is her biting me.

  4. no. babies don't often truly bite. you may get nipped, but nothing harmful.

  5. i dont think theres any risks if they bite and cut the skin cause their wee mouths wouldnt have germs or anything. i breast fed my boy for 6 months and he had 4 teeth at 4 months, its not risky just bluddy sore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Obviously...getting bit. Most babies try it at one time or another. If you really enjoy breastfeeding, I wouldn't let that detour you. The best way to discourage a biting baby is to startle them when they bite you...say OUCH loudly and pull them away from your breast. Then say ouch again softer and finish with no, no...don't bite Mommy. This usually works. As far as infections go, if you DO get bit, clean the wound gently with mild soapy water and keep it clean and dry. There are nipple guards to use while you're healing. If you avoid feeding from the sore breast, you could get engorged and end up with a nasty infection.

  7. Neither of my breastfed babies ever bit me, and I nursed one until he was 2 1/2 and I'm nursing my 22 month old.  If a baby does bite (to relieve teething pain, most likely) and he/she manages to break the skin, there's a chance of infection, just like any other bite anywhere else on the body.
