What are the rods that a puppets strings are attached to?

What is the term for the + or H shaped rods that a puppet's strings are attached to? That part that the puppeteer uses to hold and manipulate the puppet with?

  1. It's called a control. There are two kinds: the ones in your pictures are horizontal controls. The other type is a vertical control.

  2. i've found a few sites that call it a control handle, but that just seems way to easy.  if that's what it's called, i think it needs a way cooler name than that!
