  1. Nothing much. No political power really...Just there to as a symbol for the people and stuff I guess.

I guess she keeps the hundreds of years old traditions alive.

  2. We don't have a Princess of Wales, the last one having died ten years ago, so the answer, sadly, is none.

  3. Back when King Edward finally conquered Wales, him and the Welsh nobility sat down to negotiate the peace. The Welsh nobles were willing to admit defeat and pledge allegiance to the English King as long as Wales was not directly ruled by an English speaking noble. The Welsh expected one of their own would be picked.

King Edward agreed and shortly after wards appointed his new born son as "The Prince of Wales". King Edward felt he kept his end agreement because newborn babies didn't speak any language at all. Since then all newborns sons of the king are appointed as Prince of Wales.

The Welsh of course were angry and ironically referred to the Prince as the "welsher". The expression to "welsh on a deal" comes from this bit history.

A few Princes of Wales are best know for their long patient wait for the King to die so they can have something close to a real job.
