  1. The parasympathetic nerves to a majority of the body are the vagus (thorax and cranial abdomen) and the pelvic nerve (caudal abdomen).  Other parasympathetic cranial nerves do the face region.  The Vagus (cranial nerve 10) arises from the brain stem at the medulla oblongata and courses along the esophagus through the chest cavity and diaphragm into the abdomen where it branches extensively.  It innervates the heart , lungs, small intestines, stomach, pancreas, liver and parts of the large intestine.  The pelvic nerve arises from the sacral spine cord and innervates the bladder, large intestine and reproductive organs.  Sympathetic innervation travels with the spinal cord and loops off to form a row of ganglia (nerve cell bodies) called the sympathetic trunk that runs the entire length of the spine (excluding tail region).  Sympath nerves branch off the ganglia to all organs and vessels of the body.
