I need to take my daughter out of primary school for one week at the end of the May term. I know the headmaster is pretty tough and doesn't like authorising time off but what are the actual rules ?

Also any ideas how to "spin" any request to persuade him it might be a good idea ?

  1. You could get fined by the LEA if you take your daughter on holiday in term time without the authorisation of the Head.  Just to warn you!

  2. Some people put relatives are ill, this has made your daughter need time out of school. Works hard at school.

You need to ask for permission. They have to give you permission.

  3. The head can authorise up to 10 school days.

  4. It's entirely at the headteacher's discretion.  He has to act in the interests of your daughter's education - not your wallet. You need to convince him that your daughter will gain more from the trip than she will lose from missing a week's schooling, and it's not just because you can get the holiday cheaper during term time.

  5. term time brats in school

school holidays brats on school holiday

    simple

to spin a request just tell them you don't care about your kids education

  6. im in grammar school, yr 10.  at the beginning of august, all the students got out a letter, informing them about the upcoming year ahead.  at the bottom, it said that the school WOULD not permit us time off for holidays.  however, as far as i know, they have got no way of STOPPING you taking your child out of school.  so, i think you can pretty much take your child out if you want to

  7. You can have 10 days of authorised absence.

Fill out a holiday form in September and hand it in. They can't stop you, unless its SATS week and she's in Yr 6 then they can get pretty unco-operative.
