What are the rules concerning working overtime?

How often can you take it? Can you do it on a continuous or permanent basis? What are the general rules in regards to this work policy?

    IT IS A POLICY ISSUE

    employers can demand or deny overtime as long as they pay accordingly to the wage and hour laws.

    if they make overtime mandatory and you fail to work it, they can discipline you.

    they can allow some employees to work overtime and not allow others.

    as long as their job actions are based on business and not a discriminatory reason they are free to ask what is needed of their employees as far as work done and hours of work.

    IF you work under a collective bargaining agreement or have a contract that addresses the issue of overtime then that agreement takes precedence.
