  1. Special Olympics and USAV use the FIVB rules with a few exceptions.

Special Olympics has a rule about serving.  They can limit one server to 3 serves or 5 serves.  Some tournaments then do a side out.  Most just have the serving team rotate and keep serving with a new server.  That way, one server can not serve out the entire game.

Typically, they also have a rule about making sure everyone plays.

There is also a Unified division where 3 Special Olympians and 3 non Special Olympians play on the same team.  They have a rule in Unified about dominance.  They make sure that non Special Olympians do not control all of the play.

Those are the rules that are different for Special Olympics over USAV.

USAV and Special Olympics use the basic FIVB rules.

3 hits on a side, block does not count as a hit

2 games (sets) out of 3 to 25, 25, and 15 points.  Switch side sides in the deciding set at 8 points.

Only front row players may block.

Rally scoring is in effect.  Every serve means a point for one team or the other.

Back row players may only attack the ball if their last contact is from behind the 3 meter line AND the ball is completely above the height of the net.

There is a Libero player.  They wear a different colored shirt from the rest of the team.  They may replace any player in the back row.  They may not attack ball that is completely above the height of the net.

This covers many of the basics.  More questions, please feel free to email me
