  1. The BBC website seems quite good for the rules of each game

    Union http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_un...

    League

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_le...

  2. There are too many rules to learn.

Why don't you concentrate on 5 of the basics?

The ball has to be passed backwards from the hands. A success full kick at goal is worth 3 points.

Touching the ball down over the opponents line is worth 5 points.

If the ball goes out of play, it is thrown back in for both sets of players, to win possession.

If the ball is knocked forward, you restart the game with a scrum.

    Enjoy.

  3. Just go and enjoy yourself, there are so many rules, but as you watch the match, you will pick some up and get the jist of the game, great fun to watch.

  4. Oh dear. so many rules. I coach and ref rugby and there are just too many to write out here, but do go and look on the IRB site.

Best thing to do is ask, look for the signal the ref makes normally the signals are quite clear. All rugger fans are civilised and will help you a lot more than you think especially if they do realise you are a novice.

I hope you get the bug and enjoy the game.

    Have a great time.

  5. no saying of BAD WORDS you might get a technical... hahahaha

  6. try visiting www.irb.com for a full rule listing.

  7. Way too many to explain it would take pages to tell you all of them. By the way, don't watch rugby league. It's the most boring out of the different types. They just run into each other every 5 seconds! Rugby union is so much more exciting.

  8. Dont go watch Union, you will never get the jist,  Its S**t,   just a big pile up of bodies every 5 seconds that stays on the ground for a further 10, then when it finally does come out of the pile, they either kick it out into touch or go for a drop goal,  No knackers to run the ball have these chaps.

Go watch League, a hard hitting action packed collision fest,  the players are faster, fitter, tougher, more skillfull, than their slow counterparts from the other code and you will actually see a try.

  9. i have attached a link to the rfl website i am a referee in rugby league and there are too many rules to say here so this is probably the best option for you

    i hope this helps!!!

  10. There are too many rules to even try to explain here.

    There are;

    Rugby Union

    Rugby League

...and various derivatives including Rugby Sevens, Touch Rugby etc etc.

Your best bet is to do a web search.

  11. well get a book on the game of rugby, you will learn how it played

  12. visit a rugby web site to learn the rules as there are to many to explain otherwise. good luck hope you enjoy the sport

  13. Basically without reciting the rule book.

There are no forward passes allowed. Only backward passes.

There is no blocking (as in NFL football) allowed.

You may only tackle or contact the player who has the the ball.

And there is offsides, meaning a player may not be beyond all defensive players when he receives the ball.
