  1. You can't smoke while you're in tech school either. After tech school you smoke in the designated areas, but I'd recommend staying off them. Because when you're deployed to a combat area you won't be able to smoke if you're in black out conditions, not to mention you'll probably be in tent city and it's a fire hazard. Also, the oversee BX's don't carry a lot of smokes and you risk having your supply smashed when you put it on a pallet. That's my take from my time in Air Force, hope it helps.

  2. You cannot smoke during basic and Tech School.

You cannot smoke inside government property or vehicles.

Once your at your first duty station, you can smoke.

  3. I was in the Army, in basic you were not allowed to smoke.  Other then that there were times when you could not smoke, such as formations, in doors, certain situations in public, tactical situations such as on night missions in Iraq, in vehicles, in barracks, etc.  For example on the flight deck/tarmac/runways I am sure you are not allowed to smoke.  Also around sophisticated electronics I am sure you can't smoke.  Overall though the military likes to discourage smoking you can smoke as you do in "real" life.  Also people tend to break the rules with minimal punishment, as far as smoking goes.

  4. The last time I was on an Air Force base, we had to walk half a mile to the closest smoking area.  I like walking, but a mile round trip on a 10 minute break was a bit much.

I also remember on one of the bases I trained on with Airmen, they would all go hide in the woods to smoke, because they were not allowed to smoke on base or in uniform.

The Air Force is a lot more picky about stuff like that than other branches, from what I've seen.
