What are the safest (but cheapest) cars to buy now and days?

Question

I'm looking for something that's 10K or less, but if push comes to shove, I'd be willing to fork over 15K. I don't know much about cars and what has better gas mileage however so I want the cheapest that has the most gas mileage.

saturn...cheap...good on gas...good on safety. honda and toyota cost too much you will never find a good one for 10K OR EVEN 15 k you can get a band new saturn for 15 k

The Toyota Yaris is a pretty cheap car that costs about 11K and has great gas milage. You'd have to check on the safety ratings but I'm sure it's pretty safe.

2004 Saab 9-5 Aero can be found for $15,000. It is very fast and the safest sedan on the road (fact, not just opinion).

You won't find a new body style Civic from years past for even $15,000 because they've started to appreciate in value. A new one could be haggled down to about $16,000, maybe $15,000 if you get the base model coupe.

Probably the absolute best car(s) for the money that are used, and reliable with good gas mileage, are Honda's, and Toyota's, and respectfully Lexus and Accord.  So, if you find one of these in your price range, you can easily go to consumerreports.org, and research the exact car and find out what you're looking for

The Nissan Versa is the safest and cheapest choice. It has the highest all around crash safety ratings in its class from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, better than Fit and Yaris. The price is around $12k to $16k, and it has a midsize interior with great fuel efficiency.

Honda Civics are the best cars in the world. And relatively reasonable. Nissan Sentras are pretty good cars too. They are cheap, yet smaller, however very gas efficient and very reliable. So i would go with the civic or the sentra, honestly.
