I'm going for a degree in Anthropology and although I am striving for what I like and not just money, I am worried about my salary when I get out of college. I have plans for my future and I want enough money to do them. I've been looking at salaries online and I am very disappointed with what I've seen AND i dont know what I would really do with Anthropology.

Can anyone help with this? I really want to make a lot of money, but also do something that is interesting. Anthro is interesting to me, but after learning about it, I don't know exactly whata I will be doing with it?

  1. You know that's what I want to get into, and I've seen the dissapointing articles too. I'm sure your college will help you find a job in your field because that's what our college does. Just talk to your counseler and they'll help you.

Sorry I wasn't much help! Best of luck to you.

  2. I have a BA in Anthropology and can tell you that its about as useful asi any other liberal arts degree in terms of making money. In other words, not much at all.

The most you can probably hope for is to get an advanced degree and obtain a position teaching at a college. Then you can also research what interests you and maybe get decent funding to do so. You might also consider getting an advanced degree in museum curation and going that route. Unless you are brilliant though, you may be comfortable but  you surely won't be rich.

There's a book called "Great Jobs for Anthropology Majors" that goes into specifics about what you can expect to do with an anthropology degree.

I will say, although I haven't done much with my anthropology degree, what I did gain from school is a perspective of the world and an understanding of human beings that I don't feel everyone else gets in college. But then if you are drawn to anthropology you are probably a bit like that in the first place.

Best of luck to you in all of your endeavors.
