  1. well, for water you can do water and oil. teach them that they weigh differenty. b/c the oil and water will separate from eachother. use vegetable oil. I'll have my kids turn around so they can't see me, i'll make different noises and have them guess what they are. air.....do the whole thing of when it's cold outside you can see your breath and make it fun by fogging up some windows and drawing. for plants....have them plant a lima bean like you did back in elementary....i did and i had fun watching mine grow and watering it and stuff. Hope this helps!

  2. Try these websites for some ideas...

  3. Feed local plants in the neighborhood, bordering the school. Have them know the difference between flowers and trees. etc.

As in water, have your students do an experiment including water, ice, and gas.

For air and sound, I think that preschool students aren't old enough to understand that factor yet.

  4. There is a really awesome book, that's at work right now so I can't get the ISBN # for you called Science Is and it's FULL of early elementary/Preschool science experiments.  It's really worth it!  I've done plants, water, and air with preschoolers.  They also loved the 3 eggs in soda, water, and vinegar respectively....

  5. any science activites that involve them!! as long as it's hands on and the children get to participate then they'l love it!

  6. Everyone else has listed some good ideas. My only suggestion is to use what is around you even if you are in a city there will still be nature somewhere. Emphasize respect for nature to the children, how to be gentle and not disturb nests etc.

  7. Natural science!

Find out what type of birds live in your area and learn about those----ones she can hear and see

What kind of plants/trees do you have in your garden or neighborhood?

For instance, we have a woodpecker that wakes us up every Saturday morning!  We have named him, and learned a lot about woodpeckers....we look at the holes he drills into our pines.

We also have hoot owls, and have read the book "Owl Moon" (a real favorite, esp. for elementary) as well as "Owl Babies" (one of the sweetest preschool books there is!).

I think with pre-schoolers (since they're so concrete!) you need to connect the science to what they can see and experience.

    Have fun!

Also----ANYTHING involving water!  Measuring, pouring, filling baggies, balloons, buckets, etc.  (Any mom of a pre-schooler knows this already!)

  8. Look here for some cool experiments:

  9. i didn't even know children at this age HAD science - when i went to pre-k, we never had that kind of learning.
