  1. hmmm thats a tricky one and not a direct approach by any means no matter what score you get, unless we are talking like perfects across the board.

I got accepted with a SAT of:

    700: Reading

    720: Writing

    650: Math reasoning

    and an ACT of:

    Composite: 32

    Reading: 34

    Math: 26

    Science: 30

    and so on.

The thing you have to remember is to take both the ACT and SAT because it shows that you are committed to testing instead of just good grades and such. Get tutors for both, if you can, and do the best you can. If you are a writer, focus on the writing and reading sections and make sure your math composite scores are on par 650+

If you can achieve pretty much a 650+ on your SAT scores and a 30+ on your ACT composite score you will be okay.

Good luck and I hope to see you at Berk town. Its a cool school.

  2. Well, in the good ol' days (about ten years ago), I got into Berkeley with a 660 verbal, 690 SAT. I sent in ACT scores (31), but the UC system isn't so hot on ACT scores (not that they're so hot on the SAT these days, anyway).

As a simple breakdown, I think you should shoot for at least a 630 in each SAT section, and break at least 670 on each SAT II test you take.

Your GPA counts for a LOT. So have straight A's if possible. A tiny sprinkling of B's won't hurt, but it's better to have aces on your transcript.

Be involved in a LOT of stuff. Cal loves community service, so show them you're active in that sort of stuff, like organizing charity events and stuff. Volunteer in your community. Read to kids at the library or help with highway clean up.

Other good extracurricular activities include: choir, band, orchestra, drama, scouting, sports and church.

Cal loves leadership skills, so don't just do these things, lead them! Organize the events, rally your friends together to do stuff. Be a part of the student council. Crash a few school board meetings and give them a piece of your mind.

  3. These are the average SAT scores of students who were accepted to Berkeley.

    Math: 671

    Critical Reading: 629

    Writing: 620-700

    Total: 1920 - 2000

For the Class of 2010, the average ACT score was 28 for admitted students.

    Good luck!
