I'm traveling to Italy and want to know if a child car seat is required.

  1. Children under four years need a proper child seat, like this

    and of course they must have their seat belt fastened.

    The seats must be mounted onto the backseat, unless the baby is very small. in this case (and if the car doesn't have an air bag) you can mount it at the driver's side but facing the seat, not the street.

    oh, and the car seats must be in conformity with european laws: they need to have a CE logo


  2. They dont have any but they drive like crazy fools so I would always use a carseat and I always use one with my son!!

  3. Yes they are required. If you are renting a car then just make sure you book a child's seat too.... but you must know in advance that companies such as Hertz will charge you a flat fee (50 Euro) for the seat no matter how long the trip lasts.

  5. Even if NOT required, give your kids maximum protection.  Car seat for infants.  Booster seat for kids up to 40 lbs.  And please buckle up yourself each and every ride.
