Nothing secret there anymore, other than an Air Force base. Rumor has it the super-secret stuff has been moved to a location in Utah.

Even in it's heyday it was just an airbase the military used to test new aircraft. That's the kind of thing they want to keep from other nations but really isn't that interesting to the average citizen.

I think the mystery was self-perpetuating; someone wants to keep it quiet so it must be a really big deal.

Last time I checked they were still flying JANET Airlines to and from the Las Vegas airport. JANET stands for Just Another Non-Existent Transport (I think). There is an unmarked jetliner that flies Area 51 staff from their homes in Las Vegas to work and back each day (too far to drive).

The base is commonly known as the Groom Lake Facility due to the name of the dry desert lake it's actually built in.

Two of the longest runways in the world.  One is 2.5 miles and another is 4.5 miles.

Maps show it part of the Nellis AFB range.

Total area covered by 150 x 50 mile site is about 7500 square miles.
