What are the sides or perspectives on the endangered species debate?

  1. Species are going extinct at a rate of 3 per hour.  That's more than any mass extinction.  Those are the geologic events that killed off almost all life in the distant past, such as the one that killed the dinosaurs.   95% of the species are unknown to science.  The designation "endangered" is applied only to a few, not for any special reason, just because someone took the trouble to wade through the red tape sufficiently to get them on the list.


  2. To sum it up quickly, one side is bio-centric, the other is anthropocentric.

    Bio-centric is where some one understands a need for biodiversity, then and only then can you have a healthy ecosystem. These thinkers can be anyone from the deep ecologist to the the local hippie.

    Anthropocentric is really just a self-centered world paradigm, backed up with the economics of unlimited growth and modern religion.
