what are the signs of being Bipolar?

I think I'm bipolar. I'm 13 and my mood completely flips at every small things like jealousy times a million. No one else seems to act like me. So is it normal? What are the signs of being Bipolar?

  1. Bipolar isn't where you switch moods quickly for the most part (which is a common misconception). The only way to know for sure is to look up symptoms and then go to a psychologist. Most bipolar people go from depression to manic (which ranges from extremely hyper or spending money a lot) and "normal" bipolar people have four or less episodes of manic a year.

My advice, you're going through teenager hormones but if you want to be sure, go seek a psychologist.

  2. Really, I know I'm bipolar. But, I really can't explain it. It's like excessive highs and lows. And when I mean lows I don't mean when you yell at your sibling for taking the remote. Everyone gets mad like that. And everyone can get hyper...Not like once a day you'll get cranky a t something, more like you'll be bouncing off the walls one minute and then all of a sudden you get an angry feeling in the pit of your  stomache for no reason (this happens to me a lot) and then you'll be like hyper again. It's a constant battle of random emotions dude. I've dealt with add, adhd and bipolar all my life, and I'm 19. It's a struggle, especially with the anger. I know how to control my anger, but I can't control me all of a sudden getting an angry feeling, as i like to call it. And when I'm "high" my mind is racing from thought to thought. I can make a conversation about anything. And I can tend to get weird just cause so much **** is in my head. Then there's the "depression" parts of being bipolar which really sucks too. But music has helped me through. I'd love to get more into how you would know, but a lot of teens have "bipolar" symptoms but don't actually have bipolar. Key word though is can you control your mood changes? I mean really control them.

  3. i agree, it most likely is teenage hormones, i have a cousin im close to who is bipolar, and she will flip if you just smile at her randomly, but i guess the best way for you to know is to talk to your parents and see what they think, and see if you need to get checked out for it.

  4. You just sound like a normal teen. Some are just better at hiding their emotions.

If you do see a doctor about this, tell them you actually want them to spend time with you and test you. Don't let them diagnose you because you want to be. About 10 years ago we had this horrible epidemic where being clinically depressed was "cool" and everyone was on meds for it... and of course the meds didn't work because half the people didn't need them.
