What are the silencers in the exhaust?

the muffler does a lot of it but there silencer so you dont hear the exaust growl or sound get louder as engine winds up

my friend the mechanic said they pulled mine out and he did his makes sound like ferrari or something with muffler eleminating most of it still

  1. They 'silence' the sound of the exhaust.

    Usually oval in shape, they are filled with baffles and/or wadding to absorb some of the sound energy.

    Look under the back of any car and you see one.  


  2. The mufflers. They muffle exhaust sound. They don't really make the car silent.

  3. The mufflers are the silencers of your exhaust system. The mufflers consist of sealed containers with chambers and baffles inside to restrict and quiet the exhaust sound.
