    1) Nervous tissue and most of the integumentary system, including the skin, are derived from the ectoderm layer of the embryo, that is, these systems are derived from the same origins.

    2) the skin as well as the nervous system are involved in the perception of pain, temperature, pressure, stretch, crude and discriminative touch

    3) both systems are embedded in or adjacent to connective tissue

    4) the integumentary system is composed of (mostly?) nonexcitable tissue, unlike nervous and muscle tissue, which are easily stimulated by electochemical signals such as ion influx and neurotransmitters
