What are the similarities between tsunami's and earthquakes?

You better ask for differences.We can escape from Tsunami but not from earthquakes.I was able to issue the warning 2 hours before Tsunami struck our coast. My warning should have saved the life of several thousands.But it was ignored.

tsunami's are caused by earthquakes. both can cause major destruction!

They are both propogated through energy waves.

Tsunamis are most often formed by earthquakes underneath the water when water is displaced by the earthqquake.... though they can allso be formed by landslides or meteor impacts.

they can both be devastating natuaral disasters.

Yup, tsunamis are caused by earthquakes that occur on the ocean floor.  The energy from those earthquakes cause ripples in the ocean water...which are actually huge waves we call tsunami.
