  1. Some would say that to be a good property manager you need the skills of a lot of other professions:

    lawyer, accountant, psychologist, engineer, architect, craftsman, handy person, negotiator, politician, and sociologist.  All important to have since your job is to look after another person's significant investment or livelihood.

    Specific skills will be dictated by the size and type of property you manage, who you manage for, and the expectation of the particular job.  Many communty colleges and some 4-year offer courses in property management, and the Institute of Real Estate Management offers courses leading to a certification as an Accredited Residential Manager or Certified Property Manager.   Their website is www.IREM.org
